SCADA monitoring and WWTP management

Omega Group participates as subcontractor in a project to deploy SCADA system for monitoring and control of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The solution provides centralised monitoring, real-time control and automation of key processes across the entire technological line.

  • WWTP capacity: approximately 161,300 population equivalent
  • Average daily inflow: approximately 29,500 m³/day
  • Continuous monitoring of flow rates, levels, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, BOD5, COD, suspended solids and nutrients
  • Automatic alarms and safe-state scenarios on deviations
  • Energy module with consumption tracking and integration with cogeneration/biogas

Project impact

SCADA increases the reliability and efficiency of WWTPs: it reduces manual interventions, lowers the risk of environmental violations and optimises energy and maintenance costs. The deployed automation and visualisation support operational decisions and regulatory reporting.

Key activities

Inlet and mechanical pretreatment

Continuous flow/level measurement, control of screens, grit chambers and pumping units.

Biological stage

Control of aeration, DO, recirculations and temperature regimes for stable removal of BOD5/COD and nutrients.

Sludge and biogas

Monitoring of thickening/stabilisation, digesters and cogeneration; typical production up to ~3,000 m³ biogas/day.

Alarms and security

Individual thresholds, escalation and remote notifications; redundant servers and role-based access.

Energy efficiency

Analysis of energy-intensive assets (aeration/pumps) and integration with cogeneration covering up to ~70% of needs.

Reports and compliance

Automated daily/monthly reports, archive (historian) and export for regulators.
